Ryan Koesuma
Hi there, my name is Ryan Koesuma. I was born in the summer of ‘85 and originally from Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Indonesia. I’m currently living in Bandung, Indonesia, and had been falling in love with the city ever since. Graduated from Canisius College in 2003, now I’m a final year undergraduate student at Unpar in Architecture.
I’ve been a web designer since 1998 focusing on the ease of use and well-designed, effective presentation. I’m a WordPress aficionado and had been faithfully using it since 2005.
I believe in improving life with creativity and technology, and that design is the solution. I like to do things the DIY and OpenSource way.
With blogging, I hope to write and publish the things I do, especially in web design, community development, new media culture and the creative industries.
On Campus
Out of the curriculum, I expressed my passion for photography in Potret and AF. In the architecture-related activities, I was involved in editing and publishing journals for the PHK3 Government Work Grant for Energy-Efficient Housing and the Vernacular Architecture Community (KAV).
Deathrockstar.info
I’m the CTO Deathrockstar.info, the most popular online music magazine in Indonesia, the job came along with everything else from photographer to event organizer. Along with my associate, Eric Wiryanata, we’ve been connecting the local and independent music since 2004, and setting the bar on internet utilization and publishing on the local music perspective, from podcasts, event listings to releasing free albums. We are currently expanding our blogging networks.
We are also active in organizing local music gigs circa 2004-2006 from the Classic Rock Cafe, Kekeun, Parc, Soho to the TRL Bar era, paving the way for now infamous indie bands like White Shoes and the Couples Company, Sajama Cut, The Changcuters, The S.I.G.I.T, 70s Orgasm Club, Inspirational Joni, Polyester Embassy, Vincent Vega, Cascade and Elemental Gaze among many more.
As our networks grew, I eventually got involved with the online publishing of well-known indie bands like Koil, Mocca, and Homogenic.
Bandung Blog Village
I’m a member of Bandung Blog Village (est. 2002) and currently acting as a community advisor. We believe there’s more that we could do as talented bloggers other than the regular meet ups and charitable causes, such as education and talent development for the community and students. One of our program is the Online Magazine Workshops for Students.
Common Room Networks Foundation
I’ve been affiliated with Common Room, Bandung since 2007. Common Room is a community-based project space for the arts, culture and ICT/Media. I’ve been involved in projects and activities like the Portable Medialab/Projeckt-Heterologia, Blogging Workshops, Nu Substance Festival and Radio Programme, Openlabs, Save Babakan Siliwangi City Park, Bandung Oral History and currently the program manager of the Medialab, a new media and design think tank.
Bandung Creative City Forum
As the interests of the creative economy and creative industries grew and getting networked in Bandung, we managed to gather the creative-related communities and entities as a collective organisation known as BCCF, with myself as one of the founding members.
In July – August 2008, we manage to held a series of city-wide 30+ creative events, HelarFest. I’m heavily involved as part of the creative driving forces behind almost every single one of it. From traditional cultural rituals to death metal concert, from international conference on urbanism and architecture to distro clothing exhibiton.
We also conceived a city branding image for the emerging creative city, .bdg in which we hoped will be embraced and celebrated by the people as their city identity, as now beginning to evidently progressed.
